A Merindalee Kitten

My name is Eileen Pittaway and with the help of my husband, I have been breeding Abyssinians since 1975. We have always bred responsibly and pride ourselves on a good reputation to sell healthy, house raised Abys of good temperament.

I was originally attracted to the breed for their regal appearance, colour and their interaction with everything around them.

I breed mainly Ruddy, or as we call them here in Australia, Tawny, but we occasionally have Red (cinnamon) kittens too.

We show our cats and they have won major awards locally, nationally, and internationally.

We do export, but only if we are comfortable with the buyers and they meet our expectations.

We have been members of the Feline Control Council of Victoria for many years and also the Abyssinian Cat Club of Australasia along with The Abyssinian Breeder. We can thoroughly recommend all three.

Our website address is http://Abycat.org

I am so sorry for your loss...
by: Leena

I know what you are going through. I cried my eyes out every time we escorted our old cats to the Rainbow bridge... Okkie had the luxury of a good, loving life, and then peacefully sleeping away...

Big hugs to you when you deal with your sorrow...

Leena

Merindalee Red October
by: Quentin & Jo

Okkie (Merindalee Red October) peacefully slipped away and went searching for the Rainbow Bridge last night.
She's been an integral part of our family for so long part of me expects to find her escorting & supervising(!) as per usual when I do the horse chores tomorrow.
She will be sorely missed...

Coco Chanel
by: Eileen

This is indeed wonderful news. Coco Chanel is probably the oldest Aby that we have bred so far. We have one live to 19 year old before, so Coco has just broken the record for us. Happy Birthday Coco and many more to come.

They really make "old bones" sometimes :)
by: Anonymous

Hi Leena,

We love to hear news like yours. We always tell new owners that Abys play right up to the end... not as much as kittens, but never-the-less they are always ready for a game.

My two first Abys lived to a ripe old age. Casanova made it to over 16 and Bertha to almost 18 years of age!

And no one obviously ever told them that they should act with dignity, as would fit their age. Oh, no. They rand around like beserks and hopped on top of book shelves until the end almost. And followed us around and observed all we did.

That's what I love about this breed - they are so active and playful and loving.

Leena :)

14 yrs + and still beautiful NEW
by: Eileen

Thank you so much Carolyn for your lovely comments. It's great to learn that Tornado is still so much a part of your lives. I hope that he goes on to have a good track record like Hercules. Please give him a big hug from me.

14 yrs + and still beautiful
by: Carolyn

My husband organised a kitten from you for my birthday way back in 1997. He was born on 18.8.97 to parents Merindalee Lone wolf and Merindalee To Die For. What a surprise! We named him Tornado because that's what he reminded us of. He has been a beautiful, affectionate and entertaining member of our family and is still active and healthy aged 14 1/2. Thank you for this lovely breed. We hope Tornado lives to a ripe old age just like his friend Hercules who died last year 2 months short of 19.

our personal journey
by: Catherine Beckwith

My husband and I purchased two beautiful kittens back in 2001...a tawny and a cinnamon. They are with us to this day, happy and healthy! They are absolute beauties and actually saved us from a house fire right after we got them. They are amazingly bright and if i could i would send a photo of them as they are today. I've always had cats in my adult life but have never had cats like these. One day, but in the very distant future, I hope to be visiting the Pittaways again online :))) God bless you both for giving so many so much happiness Catherine
