My friend hates cats - and my cat loves him

by Katie
(New York)

I wonder what this is about: I have a friend who does not like cats at all. When he comes to visit, he pays no attention to my cat, he practically ignores her totally.

But when ever he sits down, my cat jumps to his lap. Why? Doesn't the cat understand he does not like cats? They say animals have a hunch who likes animals, but my cat sure doesn't.

Cat goes in hiding
by: Anonymous

I have a house cat. She is approx. 13 yrs. old. She is not sick. But last night she let out "squalls" like she was hurting. She was hiding under the night stand. We got her out & she laid on the couch until we went to sleep. She is very high strung & doesn't trust anybody except me. She went hiding this morning & we couldn't find her for at least a half hour. Why would she hide if she is not sick or dying?

Looking away
by: Leena

Nina said it just right, I think! I also had a friend who really hated cats. Well, he was allergic too so of course he tried to stay away from cats the best he could.

When he came to visit, he carefully avoided any eye contact with the cat. Unfortunately, in cat language that means "I am no threat to you, lets be friends..." and so all three cats tried to climb to his lap or sit next to him on the couch.

The poor guy was just petriefied and tried not to move, which the cats liked even more. (Yes, we did shoo the cats off or took them to our laps so our guest was not too uncomfortable...)

We joked that it was because he always wore black jeans where the cat hair shows all too well. (Black clothes are perhaps not the best choise with cats, but they tend to look at you in a weird way if you go to a store and ask if they have cat-hair-colored clothing...)

hates cats?
by: Nina

Yeah, very many people say they hate cats or dogs, but the truth is not that they hate them. The most common reason for people to dislike cats is that the cats are considered to be unpredictable.
The humans and the cats dont have the same signals when it comes to bodylanguage.
Persons who are afraid of cats often sits still in the nearness of a cat and the cat likes this very much...
The person who calls on a cat and try to come in contact with it, is concidered by the cat to be pushy and maybe even thretening. Thats why the cat goes away from these persons.
And thats also the reason why cats often dislike children. Children tend to move around a lot.
So, if your friend starts to move around and talk loud you will probably see another side of your cat.

Leena's Books

Tutankhamun

This book travels with the King Tut - Treasures of the Golden Pharaoh exhibition on his world tour of ten cities from March 2018 onwards

Tutankhamun: In My Own Hieroglyphs tells the story, for older children, of the life and afterlife of the famous young pharaoh in his own words. Tutankhamun tells us about the trouble he got into as a child in Akhenaten's palace in the new city of Akhetaten, and how he became a boy pharaoh. As we learn, his life changed a lot when he died as a teenager, and long years of boredom started in his tomb with only his pet monkey Fingers and his treasure for company. He did meet some of the Egyptian gods, of course, and had fun scaring off tomb robbers, but it was mostly rather dull. Then one day, some new and strange people, including a Mr. Howard Carter, arrived and began to take all the treasures out of his royal tomb. Fortunately, through the eyes of his beautiful golden mask, Tutankhamun, could have fun again traveling around the world

Mr Mummific

An ancient friend of mine, Mr Mummific dictated a book about how he became a mummy - and I was his scribe and artist. The book is available at Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk

On my other website www.ancientagypt101.com he continues his stories about life in ancient Egypt.

Another hilarious adventure for children with Mr Mummific, the mummy with attitude. He now tells the story of his mishaps, misunderstandings and misadventures as he leaves his tomb through the False Door to embark on the complicated and dangerous journey to the Afterlife aboard the magnificent Ship of Millions.

Find the book at Amazon.com  and Amazon.co.uk

The Nephilim Quest Series

The first book in an epic fantasy series based on human mythology. The search for the mythical Watchers, the angels who fathered the Nephilim, the half-angels. A story that moves on three levels - our times, ancient Greece and ancient Egypt.
